OKA b. Footwear Unveils Closed Toe Shoe

Waterproof ballet flat is first for eco-friendly sandal company.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 23, 2012

OKA b., a leading U.S. manufacturer of eco-chic and recyclable footwear, recently unveiled a first for the company – a closed toe all-season ballet flat. Inspired by simplicity and a return to the classics, the sleek and slim fitting ballet flat is designed with the same craftsmanship and recyclable materials found in the company’s signature spa sandals sold in thousands of resort spas and independent retailers worldwide. As with all of OKA b. footwear, shoes in the Ballet Flat Collection are also bacteria resistant, non-slip, durable, and washable, made from a single piece of the company’s proprietary Microplast®.

The addition of the ballet flat to OKA b.’s popular sandal and flip-flop collection enables customers to maintain their high standard of relaxed footwear even in colder months. “For years our clients have asked us to create a closed-toe shoe to wear in the spring and fall,” says OKA b. Vice President, Kelly Schmidt. “We looked at several possibilities and chose the ballet flat because of its sleekness and versatility while being able to maintain our consumer-friendly price points.” Designed in ten new styles and colors – new colors include Camel, Cranberry and Cherry – with an eclectic assortment of adornments such as floral clusters, gemstones and double sided grosgrain ribbons, the OKA b. ballet flat retails at $45.

In addition to creating highly sought after shoes with minimal waste, OKA b. is a company with the greater good in mind. The company recently partnered The American Cancer Society to outfit breast cancer patients with free sandals when they are going through treatment. To date, more than 80,000 women have received a pair of OKA b. sandals since the initiative began in 2010.

About OKA b. Footwear

OKA b. is a division of Okabashi Brands, Inc., a U.S. based manufacturer of eco friendly and spa designed sandals, flip flops and slides, sold in more than 5,000 gift shops and spa resorts worldwide. The company produces shoes that are recyclable, waterproof, non-slip and ergonomically designed with massage foot beds at price points under $45. The parent company, Okabashi Brands, Inc., was founded in 1984 and is also the manufacturer of Okabashi sandals, sold at mass market retailers worldwide. OKA b., the boutique line of spa footwear made for the street, was launched in 2006.

Cosmos for a Cure: Fashionshow and Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness

NEW ORLEANS: On Friday, October 21, 2011, three local New Orleans Women Business Owners will come together to host an evening of flirty pink cocktails, pampering massages and makeovers, fashion, light, glitz and glamour. The 3rd Annual “Cosmos for a Cure” is a night for ladies of New Orleans to come out and have a great time to network, unwind and raise money for a worthy cause!

Nina Bellard, Letitia Clark George and Mynnye Shaw came together a few years ago just wanting to host an event during October to help raise awareness of breast cancer in their community. Nina is the owner of Plush Party Events a premier party planning firm. Letitia is the owner of B Beauty Bar, a mineral makeup line designed for women of color and Mynnye is the owner of Mynnye’s Chocolates a exclusive confectionery for all occasions. What seemed like a great way to give back while promoting their businesses, has evolved into a major philanthropic effort connecting women and businesses all around the metropolitan New Orleans area.

With over 50 sponsors this year, the hosts, Nina, Letitia and Mynne, say this will be the best year yet. TWIST Cocktails will be the venue of the big event this year with CIROC being the main sponsor for the signature Cosmo cocktail. Dozens of sponsors have donated silent auction prizes ranging from Pink Limo Rides to Pampering Spa Packages.

There will be no shortage of fun and fashion at this event. Johnny Wah Exclusive Shoe Boutique will have a raffle for a $600 pair of shoes out of their boutique and the fashion show will be styled by Hemline.

Every guest who is a breast cancer survivors will enjoy the most premier pampering experience out of all the guests. Each will have a special photo session with the professional photographer on site. Survivors will also have an opportunity to model some of the fashions and will have the floor to give personal testimonies of their experience and recovery.

“This is an event, that inspires and invigorates…I have attended every year and continue to be blown away by the support of the local women in New Orleans” Chanelle Peters (breast cancer survivor).

Nina, Letitia and Mynnye made a great effort to incorporate Susan G. Komen in their event this year. The local New Orleans Affiliate of the foundation agreed to have “Cosmos for a Cure” as a sign up venue and official pre-party of the 15th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure. The three hosts assembled a “Cosmos for a Cure” team and will be participating in the race early the next morning after their event.

The ladies have committed to raising $5,000 and hope to achieve that goal. Help them in achieving a notable goal by attending the 3rd Annual Cosmos for a Cure on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 5:30 – 9pm at TWIST Cocktails (628 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA 70130) Tickets can be bought at the door or online at www.cosmosforacure.eventbrite.com

Getting Gussied Up at Garubo’s for a Good Cause

A squad of stylists donated their services for free on Monday in order to make their community lovelier — and healthier.

The ladies and men of the Anthony Garubo Salon Day Spa in Maplewood, NJ snipped, sprayed, styled, weaved and smoothed the locks of more than 50 local ladies with all funds going to research and education to eradicate breast cancer through the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

By late afternoon, totals had already topped $3,000. And dozens of smartly coiffed women — many with a strand of pink woven into their do — had been sent out into the sunshine to spread a little more beauty and goodwill to the world.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Marcia Worth, South Orange Patch editor. “I put myself into Mary’s hands and she changed both my look and my outlook. Seeing all the stylists in their pink t-shirts was a visual reminder of what the event meant. I was thrilled to participate.”
