With stress levels in the city reaching new highs day after day, and with the harsh summer adding to the woes of Mumbaikars, the one business that seems to be rocking these days is the health spa. A larger number of people are willing to spend top dollar to get an hour’s worth of relaxation and rejuvenation therapy.

And the spas themselves are begining to get smarter and re conceiving more innovative products in their bid to beat the competition and grab your custom. Organic and natural products are more or less a given and no establishment worth its name would dream about functioning without them. But they aren’t enough to augment footfalls, which is why you have new products such as spa-on-wheels, packages for your poodle, and fish pedicures, among others.

Another noticeable trend is the increasing number of men who’ve started using the services of service providers in this space.

Then there is the concept of the couple spa which is gaining popularity. Says Shalini Chopra, a senior engineer in a software company: “I make it a point to take an appointment at my spa on Sunday noon along with my husband. This is the best way to pamper ourselves and get refuelled for another hectic week.”

Shreya Bachawat, a college student from Bandra says “These group buying sites like snap deal, crazeal have contributed a lot towards the promotion of spas. Being a student, I can’t afford to spend more on these luxury activities. So I daily keep on looking for offers at these sites.”

New Westchase Salon’s Name Says It All

About a month ago, opportunity knocked (or in this case rang) for Charlie Ngo.

The call came from the owner of Soonye Company Salon and Day Spa in the same shopping center as Ngo’s Lovely Nails Day Spa. Soonye, the owner, wanted to know if Ngo was interested in purchasing her business and taking over.

Despite already running Lovely Nails, one of Westchase’s most popular places to have your nails done, and welcoming a new baby into his family, Ngo jumped at the opportunity.

“It’s not just the great look that you get, but it’s the pampering service as well,” Ngo said on a recent day at Studio 7. “That will be my focus — pampering people.”

Ngo opened Studio 7 a few weeks ago in Westchase at 12153 W. Linebaugh Avenue in Tampa.

The salon’s name signifies another change Ngo wanted to make in the hair care business. Studio 7 will be open seven days a week.

“I noticed that most salons were closed on Sunday and Monday,” he said.

“Seven is my lucky number,” he added. “It reflects a new philosophy and business principle.”

In addition to most hair care services, Studio 7 also offers nail care, facials, body treatments, makeup application and spa packages.

For the past month, Ngo and his staff have worked to revamp the salon including knocking down a wall to create a spacious, yet cozy pedicure area. New lighting, flooring and nail stations have also been added to the salon.

New stylists have been hired for the location. And former Lovely Nails staff Julie and Linda will be joining the Studio 7 group. Christopher Nejman, a stylists who worked at Soonye Company remains at the new Studio 7.

Nejman was enthusiastic about the new salon.

“I think it’s great, we’re going back to basics where a person can come into one place and have everything done,” said Nejman, who has more than 25 years experience. “It’s a great marriage bringing hair, nails and skin together.”

Find “Westchase Studio 7″ on Facebook. The salon is located at 12153 West Linebaugh Avenue. Call 813-818-4499.

QuitFullStop Stop Smoking Service Teams up with London Skincare Spa

It takes as little as 20 minutes for the human body to recover from internal adjustments triggered by nicotine intake.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 6 February 2012

Quit smoking resource QuitFullStop is championing the benefits of ‘spring cleaning’ the body by partnering with The Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden to give away an exclusive luxury treatment package for one lucky winner.

The competition, which is open to the public is launched week commencing 6/2/2012 carrying through until the end of the month. It will surface on social networking site Facebook for both fans of the stop smoking website and localised online community groups.

Stop smoking website QuitFullStop, by reaching out to a new digital demographic, is intent on delivering its message that good things happen when you give up cigarettes, a warning that has lost its potency in today’s care-free, instant-gratification society whereby appearances matter above all else.

The calling is further highlighted on QuitFullStop’s stop smoking website, in that it takes as little as 20 minutes for the human body to recover from the internal tampering of nicotine.

An online smoking cessation timeline goes deeper: in 72 hours post smoking, breathing becomes easier as bronchial tubes begin to relax; in 1 month skin texture and colour enriches.

For these reasons, quit smoking ambassador QuitFullStop has sounded out skincare treatment as a parallel to which many can identify with for the pursuit of a cosmetically cleaner and health-conscious lifestyle.

To read more about the competition head over to the main website. The offer stands until the end of February 2012.

QuitFullStop is an online information portal dedicated to helping people quit smoking and stay smoke-free. Online a smoker can obtain free, impartial advice on the most relevant topics surrounding smoking cessation.

At QuitFullStop a smoker can also take online tests, and collect a custom badge to add to a Facebook page, blog or website to show they are serious about quitting smoking once and for all.

YOUphoria Day Spa treats mother to day of pampering

YOUphoria Day Spa treats mother to day of pampering

Whitney Skipper gets a facial and massage during YOUphoria Day Spa and Salon’s “Holiday Makeover” last Sunday. After numerous submissions, YOUphoria Day Spa and Salon awarded a local mother of two a day of pampering with a complete Holiday makeover last Sunday.

YOUphoria owner Kerry King said the spa wanted to give someone a makeover to help brighten their holidays.

“We asked people to nominate themselves or somebody else on Facebook that they believed deserved a holiday makeover,” King said. “After that, we took all of the nominations and put them in our breakroom for our employees to read the stories and at the end voted for who they felt was the most deserving.”

Despite the many deserving candidates, the salon staff chose Moody resident Whitney Skipper.

Skipper, who was nominated by her mother Karen Goff, was shocked when she received the news of being chosen for the makeover.

“This is something I would never do for myself. She didn’t tell me she was going to do it, but it’s a blessing,” Skipper said.

In July, Skipper was involved in a roll-over accident on S.H. 317. While driving her grandmother’s Tahoe, the vehicle rolled several times and Skipper was ejected from the vehicle. She was then transported to Scott White.

Despite the horrific accident, Skipper’s injuries were not life threatening, but she had eight transverse fractures from her C4 vertebrae and her pelvis was broken in two places.

Although her injuries didn’t require surgery, Skipper had to be placed in a rehab facility in Waco for several months to learn occupational therapy and learn how to adjust to being in a wheelchair.

Because of her extended stay, Skipper’s disability insurance eventually ran out and was ultimately out of work for a couple of months. But thanks to friends and family, Skipper recently returned to work.

“I know it tugged on my heartstrings because my husband was involved in a similar accident,” King said.

Although Skipper is on her way to making a full recovery, she said that taking the time and money out to treat herself hasn’t been an option.

“I have to make sure I have enough money for diapers and everything, so I would never take the time to do something like this,” Skipper said.

During the day, Skipper was treated to a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and a haircut.

“I have never had a massage before, so it was great,” Skipper said. “That’s what I was looking forward to the most.”

King said the idea for the holiday makeover came after the spa participated in a special makeover give-away earlier in the year.

“It was really fun and we enjoyed seeing the difference we made, so we wanted to do it again and decided on giving away a holiday makeover,” King said. “We try to donate to just about every charity that comes through the door. We try to give back to the community and we really love to do makeovers.”

King said YOUphoria will be giving away a Mother’s Day and Back-to-School makeover next year.

Skipper said she was excited to receive the makeover and is keeping a positive attitude.

“Everything could always be worse,” Skipper said. “I’m just thankful that I can walk and that my kids weren’t with me.”

Skipper’s massage was performed by Stephenie Richards, her facial was performed by Angie Gutierrez, her manicure and pedicure were perfsormed by Janie Brown, her haircut and style was performed by Sonja Bell-Clark and her make up was performed by Cindy Bilbrey.

Three runner’s up received $50 gift certificates to the spa.

For more information about YOUphoria’s makeover give-aways, call (254) 939-7732 or visit www.youphoriadayspa.com.

Core Mechanic: The game is tightly wound into the idea that Innocent Drinks is a fun, simple, healthy product. Users must play a simple, fun game to help pickers deliver the fruit for the juice. Users then my collect badges to share with friends on Facebook and may win prizes, such as an iPad 2.

Impact: The Page has 209,000 Likes and PageData shows relatively steady growth.

Clarins’ Spa Life Photo Contest
