Hands on Day Spa Representative: We Want to Keep it Clean
Hands on Day Spa has replaced two women who were arrested two weeks ago with a man and a woman masseuse, according to an employee at the spa.
“We don’t want to make any problems for the township,” James Yang said on Tuesday morning, May 1. “ … We want to keep it clean, just have clean massages.”
His comments came in the aftermath of the arrests of Jin Lua Li, 37, and Lian Cui, 39, both of Galloway, on April 18 for alleged acts of prostitution. Police conducted a two-week investigation that culminated in an undercover operation and resulted in the two arrests and the recovery of about $400 in cash, Galloway Police said on Friday, April 27.
Police also said there was no evidence of a connection between the owner of the spa and any illegal activity.
According to Yang, the two new employees underwent background evaluations and have clean records. He spoke in place of the owner, who he said is currently in South Korea.
The spa was closed from the time of the arrests until Monday afternoon, April 30.
“We ask, ‘Why did they do this?’ We don’t know,” Yang said. “ … When people get stressed out, they like to get massages. We want them to come here and just be able to get a massage.”
The spa is located at 714 White Horse Pike, adjacent to RCH Thrift Shop.
RCH owner Rhonda Heuser and her husband, Mike, were adamant they knew nothing about Li and Cui’s actions, and hoped it wouldn’t affect their business.
“RCH has nothing to do with those people, and I’m infuriated by it,” said Rhonda Heuser, who appeared at the council meeting last Tuesday night, April 24 with a donation to the Germania Fire Department of $211.31.
RCH is also currently collecting donations for the Roland Rogers School.
“It’s a legitimate business operating as any other,” Galloway Police Chief Patrick Moran said of RCH Thrift. “This was done covertly. It was not very well known.”
Moran said the spa was operating for about a year before there was any indication of wrongdoing.
“The township is always looking for businesses, but these businesses bring in undesirables,” Moran said. “Legitimate day spas and massage therapy offices tend to suffer from stuff like this. This will bring them down and give them a sour reputation. Even though they’re legit, it unjustly reflects badly on them.”
Moran said this is the second time in a couple of years that a spa in Galloway has been shut down for this reason.
“It doesn’t happen here because of the community we live in,” Moran said. “Our township has a very strong opposition to sexually explicit types of businesses.”

Spa Treatments for Kids Are Ridiculous, Unless …
You’ll excuse me for totally not realizing we were no longer in the middle of economic hard times in America, as I look around and see all of these high end spas trotting out a kids’ menu for services. Yep, a kids’ menu so your children can spend some time relaxing and beautifying themselves for hundreds of dollars. Children as young as 4 years old are included in some of these spa packages, because … why? Pre-school is hard? Art time has gotten way too competitive?
What the heck is going on, America? Why are we treating our kids like they need to be pampered beyond “Here’s your snack, go play”?
I think I have an idea as to the why. Mostly because I’m guilty of the charges, on three counts.
I think we can all agree that moms need a little “me” time. Pedicures, blow-outs, makeup, and massages can all be justified for the hard working mama. Of course, that same hard working mom never has time to get to the spa. Not alone, anyway. Which is why my daughter from ages birth until a few months ago has accompanied me on many a trip to a beautifying location.
More from The Stir: Toddler Makeovers Might Land Your Kid in Therapy
Sure I was worried how her infant brain might process mommy’s bikini wax, but by the time she went with me to the makeup studio, she was already a pro at leaving mommy alone so I could chill out and enjoy the pampering. Even though that meant she got her own professional makeup application, or the “Sweet Pea” for the under 10 set for only $10. Pair that look with the “Shirley Temple” blow-out she’s sporting above ($24), and that kid is ready for her close-up.
The fact is, I rarely get out by myself to do anything even remotely resembling pampering. So my daughter goes with me on occasion. I don’t want her to think this is the norm, and hopefully she doesn’t since it’s rare that I even go, much less with my little fashionista at my side.
The downside to this is, of course, that she even knows these services exist. I didn’t have a pedicure in a salon until I was in my 20s. She was 4. (Again, mama needed one too.) But since I don’t plan on supplementing her beauty services, she’ll have to get a job and pay for her own if she ever wants to make this a regular thing. Otherwise, it’s home spa night for the girls in my house as we take turns painting each other’s toes.
Would you take your kid to a spa?
Wellness Week offers great discounts, but you could save year-round – thanks …
HOUSTON—You’ve probably heard of Wellness Week, when spas give big discounts on upscale beauty services and massages. On top of the 50-percent savings this week, you could also save hundreds of dollars all year round, thanks to Uncle Sam.
Everyone loves a good massage. For Kelley Ramsey, a massage is not just about being pampered, it really about scaling down her pain. Today on a scale of one to ten, she ranks her pain a 6 or 7.
On a recent visit to the Kavana Healing Arts Spa, Ramsey rated her pain at a six or seven, on a scale from one to 10.
“Our goal today is to get you down to at least a two or three,” massage therapist Ady Burgida told Ramsey.
Ramsey, 28, suffers from TMJD, a condition where she clenches and grinds her teeth, triggering severe headaches.
“My doctor, who I see for my jaw disorder, actually referred me to Ady,” Ramsey said.
Burgida has been a therapist for 10 years. Putting on a pair of surgical gloves, she massaged Kelley’s mouth from the outside and the inside.
When Ramsey started her weekly massages, she said she saw instant improvement.
“I probably went from having migraines two times a week or three times a week…I’m lucky now to have them twice a month, which is a huge victory for me,” she said.
Better yet, she is saving big bucks on those weekly visits, thanks to a health savings account.
“I probably save with my HSA about $600 a year with money I would’ve been paying the government in taxes,” she said.
There are different variations, like the Flexible Savings Account. They spend like a credit card from money you set aside—money for healthcare throughout the year. That money is not taxed and can be spent on massages. You do not need a doctor’s note to do this.
After all, Burgida said, massages are good for you.
“We are stretching muscle fibers. We increase blood circulation to the area, we are actually flushing metabolic waste from the area,” Burgida said.
In fact, Kavana, on Lexington Street in the Upper Kirby District, helps clients navigate health insurance to see if sessions might be covered.
“Typically, an insurance company will pay anywhere from 50 percent or less,” Burgida said.
Again, you can put up to $3,000 a year away in a health savings account tax free. You don’t have to have a medical condition. You do, however, have to prove it was spent on something “health-related” if you’re ever audited.

Jennifer Aniston Celebrates 43rd Birthday Eve with Boyfriend Justin Theroux

Last week, Jennifer Aniston celebrated her 43rd birthday and her much-talked-about beau Justin Theroux didn’t stray far. The eve of her birthday, Aniston and Theroux showed up at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood with another pal and took their favorite seat on the back patio, according to UsMagazine.com. The three drank wine and chatted most of the evening, and according to an onlooker, the couple were nothing if not affectionate. ”They touched each other alot! He had his hands in her hair at one point,” said the source.
What are some birthday celebration ideas for your partner?
Cupid’s Advice:
When you’re in a relationship and it’s your partner’s birthday, it’s on you to make the occasion special. Cupid has some tips:
1. Throw a themed party: Whether it’s a surprise party or one your partner is in on, plan an exciting party with a theme for your loved one. For instance, consider an indoor/outdoor beach party. If you live on the beach, you clearly have the necessities. If you don’t, you’re not out of the game yet. Set up a faux beach inside your home!
2. Spa weekend: Take the weekend to indulge in couples massages and hot tub time. You’ll feel the stress run right out of your body and relaxation replace it.
3. Amusement park: You may not be able to go to Chuck E. Cheese for your birthday party as an adult, but you can plan a theme park outing for your significant other’s occasion. Revert to your childhood, and have some fun.

Valentine’s Day: Spa Gift Ideas
One popular gift, or even destination, for Valetnine’s Day is the spa. With Valentine’s nearing, Patch is here to let you know what a few local spas and wellness centers have to offer.
Yemaya Massage Wellness – 120 North Main Street #126, New City – 845-634-3100
This spa has a lot of different possibilities for gift ideas. Owner Heather Koubek said a nice gift would be the discounted spa packages, with come with a combination aromatherapy massage of your choice, as well as either a scalp, foot or sinus relief treatment.
Those sessions usually last about an hour and a half or two hours, she said. The scalp, foot and sinus treatments are a bit more “playful,” she added. The sinus treatments are especially good for people with allergies, she said.
“In the hour-long massage, you’ll get what you really need,” Koubek said.
Yemaya’s massages are all the same price, $80, and individualized.
“We base it on your individual needs,” she said. “We treat you like a person and listen to what you have to say and what you’re looking for.”
Before the massage, they interview the customer about any areas he or she wants worked out, anywhere that’s been bothering them.
For Valentine’s Day, Yemaya is offering a deal on gift certificates where if you buy one you get one half off on a second.
Blissful Spa – 198 Main Street, Nyack – 845-353-6439
Owner Barbara Rosa said Blissful keeps prices low and takes appointments seven days a week.
One possible idea for Valentine’s Day, Rosa said, is to book a couples massage in Blissful’s couples room.
“It’s very popular. If you’re not comfortable, you’re side-by-side with someone else,” she said. “You’re fully-covered and we take out the only part we have to work on. The room’s cosy, the music’s good, it has soft lighting and the tables heat up. We do as much as we can to make it enjoyable and relaxing.”
She said Blissful also does facials, but they primarily stick to massages.
“We keep it concentrated on what we’re great at,” she said.
Blissful has seven rooms and offers gift certificates that don’t expire.
Massage Envy Spa – 8 Rockland Plz, Nanuet – 845-623-3111
For Valentine’s Day, sales associate Jackie Russo said this spa, located in the shopping center at the corner of Route 59 and Middletown Road, is offering a massage and facial deal.
The deal is that you get both for just $99, and you have to purchase it on a gift card before Valentine’s Day. The card can be redeemed at anytime, but you have to get both the facial and massage on the same visit.
Russo also said they’re offering a three-month gift membership for $177 so people can try out their membership program, which normally costs $59 a month. With the membership, you get an hour-massage each month and then discounted rates for additional services. The three-month trial comes with three hour-massages and the discounted rates. She said they also offer membership packages for six months and 12 months.
