“(Sponsors) get that this is the audience to do that kind of thing with,” she said. “They’re reaching out into a new crowd and it’s also perfect timing for them because people can go down and play golf a little earlier down there than up here (in Michigan).”

In addition to the spa packages, early attendees will get a gift bag with a hat and other golf items.

“When we first started doing ladies night four or five years ago and doing gift bags, we had leftover bags at the end of the night,” she said. “Now we go through the first 500 bags in two hours. They’ll just be gone.”

Everyone likes getting free gear, but Alt contends the show is about much more than that.

“As a female golfer, I wanted to make sure this show represents value for all golfers,” she said. “Things for new golfers, not-yet-golfers, women and kids, not just the buddies from the four-some on Saturday morning to come down and see. The largest growth in the game is juniors and women and to support that is very important to us.”

Alt believes with that growth comes a responsibility to teach, something she’s more than happy to hand over to Blythefield Country Club professional Patti Butcher.

“{Butcher)’s a huge asset and has always been willing to support the show,” she said. “When we first started working with her, other organizations were calling her from all around the world, but we’re right in her back yard wanting her here. Her willingness to give back is just amazing. She’s great technically, but she just wants to support women to learn the game of golf.”

Alt said Butcher will be teaching the finer points of golf etiquette and rules to follow.

“Her seminar Friday night won’t be about swing technique or keeping your elbows in,” she said. “It’ll be about getting women comfortable with the game of golf. Things to make women feel not so intimidated with going out to play. She’s a great role model in life lessons and in golf.”

Barb Barense of Rockford has been attending the Ladies Night event at the show since it started and uses it as a mid-winter get together for her and her friends.

“I go with four or five of my girlfriends every year,” she said. “We like to see the new clothes and golf shoes and you can get some pretty good deals on golf packages and things.”

To add to the excitement of the evening, the Executive Women’s Golf Association is holding a fashion show as well. Although Alt says it’s not going to compete with a show in Paris, she hopes it adds even more fun to the night.

“We hope that some husbands create a little date night around it, have fun at the show, go out to dinner, just make a night of it,” she said.

Barense understands the push for a couple’s date night, but plans on sticking to her usual crew.

“It’s kind of nice to have something like this because it makes for a nice girls night out,” she said. “I’ve seen a lot of couples there enjoying their time, but we always have more fun when it’s just us girls.”
