Letter: Elements Gives Back Today

The following was submitted to Charlestown Patch. It has not been edited.

My name is Kristen Landers and I have been a stylist in Boston for 9 years, 5 of those years have been spent at Element Day Spa. I love what I do and I am happy I get to make people feel their very best and brighten up their day.

For some this is not such a luxury and that is what brought me to this event called Element Gives Back.

A few years ago I got a new client named Lisa Brooker, she told me she worked for a shelter just over the bridge in Cambridge called Heading Home. We spoke numerous times about getting something together for the women of the shelter and as time and life went on we just didn’t get to it until now.

Heading Home is a place that provides emergency, transitional and permanent housing, and support services, to low-income homeless and formerly homeless families and individuals in the communities of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Malden, Everett and Quincy.

A home provides the optimal foundation to get back on track; their programs focus heavily on getting people permanently housed as quickly as possible.

Being able to provide a service for our regular clients of Charlestown and the surrounding areas is a wonderful thing and being able to make our clients as happy as they are when they walk out is very rewarding for us as stylists but not everyone is as fortunate as our regular clients who come every 4 to 8 weeks.

Having this event is going to be an amazing day of giving back to women to deserve the very same treatment and to make them  feel their very best is the least we can do, I know what it’s like having bad hair days and not feeling my best and I know what it’s like to be on the other side and that is our goal for this event, to give these women exactly what they deserve, great hair, confidence and a feeling that every women wants to feel, pretty.

We will be providing free hair cuts, facial waxing and basic makeup applications. Hair services provided by myself, Orestes Lopez, Amanda Daley and Leah Lessard, waxing done by owner Martha Hardiman and esthetician Michelle (gina) Makedon who will also be providing the makeup services. As a team we are all very happy to be apart of this day and we can’t wait to meet the wonderful women.

The Shops at Mauna Lani has announced Today’s Nails Day Spa opened Thursday, March 15. The new nail and day spa is located between Kohala Goldsmiths and Cache.

The owner, Trish Bui, has been in the nail salon business for more than 30 years. Her shops have been from the East Coast to the West Coast across the mainland and in Honolulu. Her most recent shop was in Waikoloa Village.

Today’s Nails Day Spa provides a full range of manicures, pedicures and waxing for the entire family.

Hair stylist Francine Soffner, has been in business here on the Big Island for more than 20 years. Hair cut and blow dry, trims, color, highlights or perms, Soffner will take excellent care of men, women and children of all ages.

Walk-ins are welcome, but may have to wait as these ladies are in high demand.

New day spa opens in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG — Radiance Hair and Day Spa opened Monday at 5457 County Route 6.

Owner Brenda Carbino said she hopes the spa’s rural setting, which features a 200-year-old maple tree, ferns and a nearby horse farm, will be refreshing compared with the hustle and bustle of some city salons.

“I want people to feel at home here. Let yourself relax and take time to appreciate life and yourself,” Mrs. Carbino said.

Mrs. Carbino, a licensed cosmetologist, specializes in color, cuts, perms, low-lighting, updos and waxing. In addition, Radiance offers spa pedicures, manicures and facials.

While Mrs. Carbino is providing primarily hair, nail and facial services, she hopes to hire a full-time massage therapist by her grand opening in May.

Radiance will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 393-1276.

Bellingham’s Zorganics grand opening set for March 9

Zorganics Beauty Salon Day Spa in Bellingham is offering prize drawings, appetizers and discounts at its grand opening from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 9.

Presenting a full menu of services for women, men and children, Zorganics 2,000 square feet of space at 3930 Meridian St., Suite 102, in the Meridian Village Shopping Center.

Services include haircuts, hair coloring, facial treatments, pedicures, manicures, waxing and massages. The salon uses only owner Frida Emalange’s line of Zorganics products.

New in town

When Renewed Spirit opened in Okemos last January, owner Heidi Foland wanted to give her customers a refreshing experience. 

As it turns out, the opening of her first full service salon and spa was an experience that left her own spirit renewed.   

“I was ready for the next challenge in life,” Foland said.
“Before, I was strictly a massage therapist. I was very limited. I was
ready to grow as a person and ready to grow with the girls that work for
me.”

While massage therapy remains Foland’s forte, she wanted
her salon to include several types of services to make Renewed Spirit a
one-stop shop for all things relaxing. 

As a full-service salon and spa, it offers services for hair, nails, facials, massage, waxing and makeup application as well.

Spirit´s featured spa packages, which include two or more types of
services, are designed to accommodate such occasions as wedding day,  girls’ night out and special treatments for mommies-to-be.

“We have girls working here that do 120 percent; they do
excellent work,” Foland said. “We’re very knowledgeable and keep up with
the trends, such as the latest colors and haircuts.”

Renewed Spirit is designed to give customers relief from
stressful daily activities and a brief escape from the real world. The
business´s motto is “renew, revive and relax”, and the staff encourages
customers to treat themselves with a day of pampering and relaxation.

Foland strives to build friendships with her clients. 

“When people come here, they will have their hair done and they will stay for hours, drinking coffee with us,” Foland said.

“It’s like you’re sitting at your couch at home, just having a friendly conversation with your girlfriends.”

Ridgewood Chamber Spotlight: Sensations Day Spa and Salon

Marcella and Anna Doniza wanted to put their “talents out there to share with the community.” So, with more than 30 years of experience in the industry, the mother-daughter team took their passion for styling and cosmetology into a new business, Sensations Day Spa and Salon, which opened in Ridgewood in October.

“We love what we do,” Marcella said.

Anna previously worked in high end-salons in New York with top stylists. She styled numerous celebrities over the years, including Jackie Onassis, Brooke Shields, Nancy Kissinger and Mary McFadden. Marcella works as a fashion designer.

“With many years of experience, we have a lot to offer,” she said.

Sensations is a pleasantly small shop, according to Anna.

“We give customers our personal touch and make them feel cozy,” she said.

Marcella and Anna, both Fair Lawn residents, like the pace of Ridgewood.

“What attracted us to Ridgewood were the people who live here. It’s a very lively town where the people are always up and about,” Marcella said. “Ridgewood is fresh and trendy.”

Salon services at Sensations include haircuts, color, styling, waxing, and manicures. Spa services include massages and facials.

“I do everything and I love it all,” Anna said. “People feel like princesses here.”
